The National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace was launched in January 2013. “The Standard” (or PHSS) is a set of voluntary guidelines for organizations to promote mental health and prevent psychological harm at work.
Even though one in five people in Canada will experience a mental illness, addiction or mental health issue in a given year (Canadian Mental Health Commission), stigma remains a major barrier to people asking for help. Many choose to keep these issues hidden due to a fear of being misunderstood or discriminated against.
Is there a stigma about mental health in your organization?
You can help reduce the stigma of mental health in your organization by encouraging a positive and supportive dialogue. Talking about mental health and sharing feelings with co-workers, family and friends, instead of suffering in silence, is the first step.
Acclaim Ability Management supports employers striving to comply with the Standard by guiding organizations through the process and providing the expertise required to develop a mental health strategy.
